The molleton fabric is usually made of 100 percent cotton and is characterized by a roughness on both sides. This roughness ensures that molleton absorbs sound as well as light. This effect depends considerably on the weight per unit area of the molleton. A distinction is made here between light (up to about 190 g/m²) and heavy weight (from about 250 g/m²). Molton is the most commonly used material in event technology. The reason for this is that molleton is suitable for a wide range of applications due to its different grammages.

What is molleton / bolton twill?

The term molleton comes from the French and means 'soft', but this only reflects one of the many properties of this material. Molton consists of one hundred percent cotton. Molton fabric is woven in a canvas weave and is therefore very stable. Raven ring molton is roughened on both sides. This gives it its typical soft, fluffy surface. The process to produce molleton is complex and requires "know how". Therefore the number of manufacturers worldwide is small. Rabenring Molton is made in Germany.

Where is molleton used?

The use of molleton is an inexpensive way of darkening rooms, achieving sound absorption or making them decorative. Due to its open surface molleton is highly sound absorbing, black stage molleton is light-tight. Molton is mainly used on stages, linings in theatres, events, cinemas and discotheques. Used are stage molleton, decomolton, satin molleton, backdrops (stage backgrounds) and other qualities. Molton is also used for sound insulation in public buildings, photo studios and exhibitions, but also in the catering industry, e.g. as table cover or table underlay. The application possibilities of molleton are almost inexhaustible.

What does molleton B1 mean (fire protection)

As decorative materials in rooms open to the public must not be flammable for fire safety reasons, Molton von Rabenring is impregnated with a flame-retardant impregnation (B1). A certificate of impregnation of Rabenring fabrics is available on request.

Which molleton qualities are available?

Rabenring supplies three qualities, stage molleton, satin molleton and decomolton. Grammage varies between 150 and 300 grams per square metre. In addition to the "classic" black molleton, we supply molleton in various colours and for a wide range of purposes.

Molton quality from Germany

Rabenring Molton comes from German production and has an above-average quality. We only carry first molton assortments! Make sure to buy only 1st grade goods. Differences in colour of different molton batches or uneven roughness of molton are not only annoying, they can also destroy the optical effect of your molton! Do not save at the wrong end.

Molton care instructions

Please note that molleton is not washable and should not be exposed to moisture. Otherwise molleton loses its flame-retardant properties, could shrink and the roughening becomes fluffy. If your Motlon needs cleaning, please ask a specialist company...
